BA celebrates 'the big 4-0'

BA is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the British Airways name this month, with a retro cabin uniform shoot featuring fellow 40-milestoner Denise Van Outen.

The carrier actually celebrated its 90th anniversary back in 2009 (see news August 2009), but this took into account BA predecessors including Air Transport and Travel Ltd, which launched in 1919.

This latest celebration commemorates the launch of the British Airways name in April 1974, following the merger of BOAC and BEA, and saw Denise Van Outen (who also turns 40 this month) modelling a vintage Hardy Amies 1974 air hostess uniform.

The carrier is also celebrating its Ruby anniversary with a special 'Ruby Murray' curry dish, available on selected World Traveller services departing London and America this month.
