High-tech hotel opens at Gatwick airport

High-tech hotel brand Bloc has opened its second UK property, a 245-room hotel located next to Gatwick’s South Terminal departures area.

Guests can opt to control their room lighting, temperature and TV using their smartphone or tablet, as well as the ability to operate their door lock and check out directly from their device.

Rooms feature monsoon showers, Egyptian cotton linen, “huge beds” and Samsung HD LED TVs, with rates starting from £59 per night and “many of the rooms” having views of the airport’s runway.

The hotel does not offer any food or drink facilities, but says that it offers discounts at “a number of the airport’s cafes, bars, restaurants and shops using its ‘Just Around the Bloc’ guide”.

Bloc Gatwick joins the group’s existing Birmingham property, and commenting on the new opening CEO Rob Morgan said:

“We see Bloc Gatwick to be our showcase and defining project for the Bloc brand and will set the foundations to go forward as we hope to open further hotels in city centres and transport hubs worldwide under our ambition to become a well-known international brand.”

Bloc Gatwick joins the Hilton London Gatwick Airport as the only properties directly linked to the South Terminal. To read an interview with Rob Morgan published in November last year, click here.
